"A dragon is no idle fancy", Tolkien says. the feast day of st. george the dragon slayer is behind us now and spring is in full swing.
I wanted to remind everyone that the African Well Fund drive is still in full swing. We've raised $744.50 towards building a source of clean drinking water for a particular group of people in a particular spot in Africa.
The goal is to raise $1000's and change some lives for the better. We have until May 6. The first world takes clean water for granted and the divide that keeps the developing world in the middle ages is theologically and morally unacceptable.
I've heard some speculation about the efficacy of building a well . . . What happens when we build it? Will it break down and go to rubbish?
here is the "Exit Stragegy" from African Well fund:
"The involvement of District Water office throughout the life of the project will assure they will continue to provide technical support to the water user committees even after the end of the project.
Water user committees are formed and trained in each of target communities to ensure the sustainability of the water sources. The committees are trained in the operation and maintenance of water sources. They also serve as trainers, who disseminate sanitation messages to the communities that benefit from the water sources. These committees are registered at the District’s Water Office and collect a small water user fee, which is used to sustain the water source." (read more well facts here)
If you haven't heard, we have a matching donor who is willing to match any gift you put forward towards the fund. Your $5's, $10's and $20's are needed and will double . . . just because you gave. If you've already given, get one person (1 person) you know to give and we will surely meet our goal.
Here is the link to my original post about the African Well fund. Instructions on how to give are at the end of the post.
what will we do?
